A different kind of artist
As an artist, Leigh has a deep connection with the natural world, which can be seen throughout her work; an intrinsic collaboration between artist and nature. She takes inspiration from the world around her and in particular the ocean, with its other worldly feel, the ebb and flow of the tides and the alien creatures of the deep,
blah, blah, blah…
Aren’t we all sick of the hyperbol and pseudo academic art speak?
Let’s drop the bullshit and get down to brass tacks shall we?
I have good news.
Not all artists are cast from the same mould.
I’m done trying to fit in when I do anything but, so if you want to connect with an actual, straight talking human being then oh boy, have you come to the right place!
I’m Leigh, and we’re about to have a whole lot of fun. Hold on to your pants!
When I’m in the midst of creating, I love to work up a sweat, get my hands dirty and make a mess. I’m a demon with a blowtorch, there’s something so powerful about using fire to create, and in fact the whole experience is super sensual and akin to spending a dirty weekend with a new lover, all fiery loins and sweaty limbs.
And what about you?
You want to create something extraordinary that speaks to your spirit without fear of being judged by a poncey know it all who just wants to create what they want to create. Fuck that!
You want to collaborate with someone who is down to earth and really gets you, and is going to make something that is a true union between your passion and the artists talent.
Starting a new piece is exciting! And always an adventure, since the vision is in mind but the piece evolves organically as I yield to my own sensuality and let this flow onto canvas.
What I’m trying to say is this: We’ll decide on an outcome, you’ll probably look through my extensive, and frankly incredible back catalogue, and you’ll see something you like and you’ll want me to recreate it just for you.
I’ll nod and agree, but inside I’ll be laughing like a drain.
And here’s why. I use resin, blowtorches, things that are around me and within reach (the cat almost became one with a canvas once, poor pussy) and my hands to create your piece. There is literally no chance of recreating anything I’ve crafted before.
But that’s the beauty. Your piece will be unique, beautiful, a one of a kind.
Just like you.
Because I encourage your complete participation in the process, from initial consultation through to physically placing your hands directly on the finished piece. Using your senses to really feel the sweeps and curves that have been created in breathing life into your vision.
In English: My work is truly experimental and spontaneous, just like me. I am not an aloof artist, quite the opposite. It is an honour for me to work with you, and I look forward to working alongside you to develop your unique masterpiece.
And that’s the truth.
